Award: Workplace Design
BVN with Intermain for Intermain
Supporting Intermain on their journey to become one of Australia’s leading socially responsible builders, BVN has co-created their new HQ in Sydney, integrating a vibrant office space with the factory. The project represents a sharing of ideas between organisations with similarly ambitious sustainability goals and passion for workplace design.
Jury Citation
With a huge variety of workplace entries to consider, the jury dug deep into the planning approaches, sustainability and cultural aspects of all shortlisted entries. Intermain truly reflects the diverse aspects of the contemporary workplace and displays a clever relationship between the studio’s own work and the craft they make. The jury agreed that the project goes beyond what could have been a very basic refurbishment to become a celebration of rudimentary materials and the re-use of materiality to achieve a sustainable outcome. It is an unexpected pairing of workshop and traditional workplace that has created a very interesting union. Intermain promotes the re-use and recycling of materials, demonstrating how raw materials can be used in refined ways and how intelligent, robust design can create value in a project.
