Award: Workplace Design
Wardle for 477 Pitt Street
477 Pitt Street occupies a rare whole-of-island site south of Sydney’s CBD in the Tech Central precinct. A dramatic transformation internally and externally creates an enlivened contemporary workplace. Revitalised interiors deliver a lively lobby experience, coupled with intelligent, strategic interventions to create a fresh building identity and legible arrival sequence.
Jury Citation
This was a very diverse category that saw the awarded projects represent a spectrum of approaches, with 477 Pitt Street displaying rigour in the design and application of rich materials and detailed craftsmanship. It is a considered reworking of a previously dark and unsophisticated interior into a very welcoming, warm and textural workplace within the heart of the CBD. Big moves create intimate spaces and the jury was particularly impressed by the large table, which functions as an anchor within a space that could very well have been left as a thoroughfare, but now provides small pockets of comfortable working zones. Materiality is beautifully refined and celebrated and the mixed program has been approached in a calm and considered way.
